Darkest Fear

Filed under: Software — stmcgill @ 10:06 am

The Darkest Fear series was recommended in a comment on this blog and the first one is brilliant. Easily one of the best games on my E61.

Darkest Fear 3 Nightmare is the final part of Rovio Mobile’s award winning Darkest Fear horror trilogy. The game offers a unique atmosphere and completely new lightning effects like never seen on mobile. Ingenious puzzles, two controllable characters, fifteen different endings and Helen’s new monster abilities take mobile gaming to a new level. The painful history of Grim Oak is about to be revealed. But can you confront your worst nightmare.

PicoBlogger

Filed under: Software — stmcgill @ 12:56 pm

Ewan Spence has written up a review of PicoBlogger which now works on S60 3rd Edition- “I’ve looked at PicoBlogger previously, and in the last year the service has carried on growing. One thing I pointed out then was that PicoBlogger was a one way tool (upload only). Well, all that has now changed.

What raises my eyebrow on returning to PicoBlogger is that it is more than just an uploading tool, it’s an entire, holistic blogging service (dare I say it is very Web 2.0 ish?). They have the photo uploader, the web site, and they provide you with your own photoblog. In version 3, you have the choice to send not only to your PicoBlog (which is set up when you register your details, although the application is free), but you can also post to Blogger, MSN Spaces, WordPress, Movable Type, Typepad or Live Journal sites. If your blog host isn’t there, they do ask you to get in touch so they can add it in the next build. Well it is a bit cheeky, but I’d love to see an open Web2.0 approach and a version of PicoBlogger that works with rival Flickr…”

Any good E61 games out there?

Filed under: Software — stmcgill @ 1:37 pm

It is ‘very’ difficult finding good games for the E61 at the best of times so here’s a quick run down of some decent JAVA efforts-

Mobile Grand Prix 2 is surprisingly good fun to play and takes a decent amount of skill to get anywhere. “MGP 2 is a Formula 1 simulator with an advanced physical model, fully customisable vehicles and packed with all official Formula 1 racing tracks. Choose one of the six teams to race with and win all of the races in order to win the championship.
game, mobile, Formula 1,race, speed, championship

Setting slipstream indicator on will show you the optimal path for gaining more speed. Make a pit stop when the formula damage indicator shows severe damage or the tires need to be replaced. When in pit stop follow the number sequence to make your team successfully finish the repairs.”

Black Hawk Down- Team Sabre should be excellent and the first level is indeed great. Shame I can’t work out how to go to level 2 once level 1 is completed?

Based on the popular NovaLogic franchise and sim-shipping with the PS2 release

Team Sabre is a 2D tactical action game represented in a top down view

Player will lead the elite Delta Force® unit on 10 missions through treacherous South American jungles and across remote deserts in the Persian Gulf

Levels alternate between helicopter combat and ground combat and present 20 total action sequences

In ground combat, the player controls individual team members, strategically using their strengths to move across the level.

Granodus Elemental Invasion is pretty big for a JAVA game but it is quite slow to navigate. It does look as though it will get better the more I play it though.

You are the wise magician Granodus. The evil Xantomuphus stole your mighty magic staff, leaving you only a small wand. Your powers are in the magic staff, so you have to get it back as soon as possible.
Xantomuphus filled the area with five types of elementals: iron, fire , earth, wind, water. You have to eliminate all elementals and find the five scrolls of elements to find the evil wizard.
There is an unlimited amount of charges for every element in your wand, so this shouldn’t be a problem…

Controls: D-pad (2,4,6,8) to move. Click (5) to fire.

I will try to find some more that are worth playing but there is a LOT of rubbish out there! If you have recommendations for any good games let us know…

Hangman Plus

Filed under: Software — stmcgill @ 10:38 pm

Now calm your excitement. Hangman Plus now works on the E61 (oh how I would kill for a half decent game on S60 3rd edition!)

Guess words letter-by-letter! In Hangman Plus, you can guess random words from more than 1500 English words available in the game. You can adjust the length of the guessed words and the difficulty to your preferred level.

Hangman is not only a great game for spending time, but also a pleasant study tool. By guessing various words, you improve your English. That is why Hangman is also a great educational toy for children and students.
