My Digital Generation

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 10:51 pm

Coming soon to an E61 near you. An eBook called My Digital Generation about growing up with technology, loving it, hating it and finally tolerating it…

When I was very young we used to have an outside toilet and I remember being scared that a big spider or rat would come and visit while I was taking care of business yet at no time did I think it odd that the toilet was in the garden. My brother and I used to have our baths in the kitchen sink and again it all seemed perfectly normal. We used to play in the street because there were hardly any cars and when the man who lived a few doors down picked up the local children to let them sit in the back of his open bed truck while he drove down the hill no one shouted “paedophile!” at him. It was a glorious experience sitting in the back of the truck feeling the wind rush throw my horribly styled hair at a maximum speed of ten miles an hour…”

“…I remember snow very vividly and being able to build a Dad sized snowman and then roll his head down the hill just before the global warming melted him- in those days global warming was called the Sun. I have not seen ‘proper’ snow for many years and my children (3 and 6 years old) have never experienced not being able to walk properly because the snow is up to their knees.”

Smartphone duel: Nokia E62 vs. T-Mobile Dash

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 10:39 pm

Smartphone duel: Nokia E62 vs. T-Mobile Dash has been posted at infoSync and they come to the wrong conclusion:) “Both the Dash and the E62 boast superb messaging features, including push e-mail, compatibility with corporate Microsoft Exchange servers and POP/IMAP e-mail access, although the E62 gets a slight edge with its BlackBerry Connect support. Each smartphone boasts multiple IM clients (AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo on the Dash, while the E62 has all but ICQ) and intuitive, easy-to-use messaging clients. That said, neither phone features a contextual, while-you-type menu of contact names in the “To” field for new messages, something we’ve come to expect from the latest smartphones.”

Possible new E- series device?

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 7:57 pm

Jah spotted this thread over at mobile-review regarding a possible new E- series device. If the picture is anywhere close I am on it like a shot!

“The new Communicator will be S60 3rd Edition (3.1 precisely) based. The internal screen will be VERY HUGE, and the external screen will be S60 as well - thanks to S60 3rd Edition’s scalable UI. The keyboard will be large and comfortable, too. That’s all for now but more info will come as soon as I know something.”

Mobile users can now access Oracle® Applications from Nokia E61 and Nokia E62 devices

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 6:57 pm

New York, NY, USA -Nokia today announced the certification and availability of several Oracle® mobile enterprise applications on the Nokia E61 and Nokia E62 devices.  These applications include Oracle Mobile Field Service and Oracle’s Siebel Wireless, which are supported on the Nokia E61 and Nokia E62 devices. The certification enables mobile field service, field sales, and mobile professionals to use one device to access these critical business applications, as well as voice communications, while out of the office.

Oracle Mobile Field Service enables mobile access to relevant work schedules and job information, allowing field service dispatchers and their service representatives to collaborate more closely as work requests are created, updated and subsequently completed.  “By bringing our enterprise application expertise to Nokia Eseries business devices, we are delivering a mobile solution to organizations worldwide that enables mobile professionals to make informed decisions more quickly, offer better customer service, and more importantly enhance the productivity and experience of the mobile worker.” said Anand Subbaraman, Director, Field Service Product Strategy at Oracle.

Oracle’s Siebel Wireless Applications for Sales, Service, Partner Relationship Management and eService using the Nokia device to connect to the Internet allow mobile users to view, edit and create information in their companies’ Siebel Enterprise database. “Oracle’s Siebel Wireless Applications and the Nokia E61 and Nokia E62 provide a critical market differentiation for enterprises seeking to gain a competitive advantage through mobile CRM deployments” said Guy Waterman, Senior Director, Mobile Product Strategy at Oracle.

“Nokia and Oracle are now able to deliver essential mobile solutions to professionals: the ability to access real-time customer information. This is critical for executives, sales professionals, and field service personnel that spend a majority of their time away from their offices” said Chris Fletcher, Director of Alliance and Solutions Marketing at Nokia.  “The combination of access to critical Oracle applications, combined with the best of class enterprise voice capabilities provided by the Nokia E61 and Nokia E62, make for a compelling mobile enterprise solution.”

The Oracle and Nokia solutions will be exhibited at the Nokia stand at Oracle OpenWorld this week, October 22 - 26, 2006, at San Francisco’s Moscone Center.

I hate Guns banned (sort of)

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 11:06 am

Yesterday I HATE GUNS! - a mobile game for Symbian-powered phones by Polish developer FUN and MOBILE - was considered an Adult Content by the Handango.com software shop. That’s weird, because it contains no dirty language, nudity, blood, gore, killing or bomb blasts! So why did they ban it? That’s even more strange, that many shooting games are still actively sold and promoted on that shop. As a result, Handango has removed I HATE GUNS! version for 1st and 2nd edition of s60 phones from its website. However, game version for s60 3rd edition and UIQ phones is still there and Handango still sells the game through partner sites - you never know for how long. Good thing there are still other shops.

Shaun: Nice to see Handango get no better as time goes on…
