My Digital Generation

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 9:15 pm

I have set up a web page for the My Digital Generation eBook which is now available ( a very poor web page which I will update soon:)) I have also decided to charge $1.50 for the book with all profits after PayPal charges going to Save The Children- even if I only get to send them $100 it is some reward for the time involved. This book is quite short, only about 160 eBook pages, but a second book is already being written as an add-on to this one. If you purchase this one you will get the second one delivered to you in your preferred format free of charge.

“When I was very young we used to have an outside toilet and I remember being scared that a big spider or rat would come and visit while I was taking care of business yet at no time did I think it odd that the toilet was in the garden. My brother and I used to have our baths in the kitchen sink and again it all seemed perfectly normal. We used to play in the street because there were hardly any cars and when the man who lived a few doors down picked up the local children to let them sit in the back of his open bed truck while he drove down the hill no one shouted “paedophile!” at him. It was a glorious experience sitting in the back of the truck feeling the wind rush throw my horribly styled hair at a maximum speed of ten miles an hour…”

“…I remember snow very vividly and being able to build a Dad sized snowman and then roll his head down the hill just before the global warming melted him- in those days global warming was called the Sun. I have not seen ‘proper’ snow for many years and my children (3 and 6 years old) have never experienced not being able to walk properly because the snow is up to their knees.”

UPDATE: If you are purchasing ‘please’ state your preffered format in the message field. So far 3 out of 4 have no format quoted and it’s taking me forever sending them out. Also, if Didier could contact me- my emails keep getting bounced back!

Odd installations

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 9:14 pm

I just noticed something strange since installing a Psion Revo to my PC. When double clicking SIS files to install to the Nokia E61 my PC trys to install it to the Revo- surely this should be the other way around?

Ooh! E62i!

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 6:20 pm

engadget mobile has a potential huge scoop- the Nokia E62i!

Sure, Nokia knows how to make solid phone, and we hear they even manage move a few units, but if there’s one thing Nokia hasn’t quite nailed yet — for whatever reason — is that thin is in. Well, it doesn’t look like they’re planning on winning any prizes in this arena just yet (though that N75 is dang close), but some blurry camphone shots of a supposed “E62i” successor to the E61/62 qwerty handhelds points to a marked slimming of the phone, and every mm counts in a world of smartphones like the Excalibur, Q and Pearl. From the pics, it’s apparent Nokia has also added a couple of face buttons, swapped the 5-way joystiq for a welcome new flat button, and added a camera. It’s hard to tell from the pics if any other dimensions have gone under the knife in the interest of making this thing a bit more pocketable, but we definitely like where this one is headed. We’re otherwise in the dark for specs, but supposedly “confirmation” is headed our way near the end of November…

Change your reading fonts

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 10:09 pm

One thing that has aways bugged me about the MobiPocket reader on the E61 is the default font. Just discovered that you can change it. Here’s how-

  1. Insert your SD card into an SD card reader and create a new folder called ‘Fonts’ in the Resource folder.
  2. Copy some fonts from Windows/Fonts on your PC to this new folder.
  3. Re-insert your SD card into the E61 and turn it off and back on.
  4. In MobiPocket go to settings/fonts and then choose one of your new fonts from the list. Works really well and brings it close to eReader quality.

If you know of other applications you can change the font in let us all know…
