SoonR Tips

Filed under: Articles — stmcgill @ 6:10 pm

We mentioned SoonR yesterday and there’s a decent guide to using it over at S60Tips- “Can we access files stored on our PC’s somewhere from our S60 phones? Yes, absolutely. There are already some solutions available out there, but this time I will discuss the free one, i.e. SoonR.com. Thanks to Yasugi Hidenobu from Osaka, Japan who has pointed out this nice service.

One feature that I like from SoonR is that no additional software needed on our S60 phones. The built-in web browser, such as S60 OSS Browser, will do. Furthermore, SoonR allows us accessing some other applications too, such as Microsoft Outlook and Skype.

How does SoonR work? It works by installing an agent on your PC, called SoonR Desktop Agent. The agent will then share your files to your phone’s browser via SSL connection (128 bit SSL to be exact). It works the same way to access applications, such as Outlook and Skype. Your phone acts as remote control to the applications via SSL connection…”

  1. Thanks for the useful tips and sorry about the off-topic comment, but I did not know where else to post and I wanted to share this with fellow Nokia E61 owners.

Have U.S. Nokia E61 owners gotten screwed with the recent release of the E62 by Cingular? Please visit my blog and tell me what you guys think about this.

  2. I wish someone would come out with an SMB/FTP/SFTP client instead. This agent stuff stinks, as its platform specific and non-standard.

  3. amen brother! I run linux at home which makes Soonr absolutely worthless (plus, it requires some strange hooks to the Soonr mothership that I’m not entirely comfortable with).

How hard can a stinking FTP client be? And I think it was a really bad move not to include an SMB client built in to the phone. Especially on the E-series. You have a wifi enabled business phone with no good way to transfer files? Crazy…

  5. try mobyexplorer ftp sftp gzip remote text editing - real nice - costs $15 but that’ll ensure continued development.

    :-)
