I decided to update the E61 today but after installing the updater application and trying to run it I just get ’starting application’ and then nothing else happens? Sorry to come up with another issue but if anyone else has had this problem and knows the answer I would be very grateful

I had this problem when I had Norton Internet Security installed in my PC. Disabling the security does not help.
The NSU functions normally only after uninstalling Norton Internet Security..

I had a similar problem in that it said there was no update for my e61 (RM-89). Even though I was an earlier version of the software.
I tried again with the newly released version of the NSU, but still get the same message.
So I can’t update my Voidafone (UK) branded e61 !
If anyone finds an answer please post.

I suffer from the same problem it seems
I have a Thai e61 with version 1 and the installer seems to think it doesn’t need updating. Its not branded and was purchased offline

The answer is that there is no firmware update for the vodaphone branded e61 yet - I have a sim-free (RM-89) device and updated that fine the other week.

I had the same problem.
My E61 has an interesting background as it was prepped for sale in Finland, imported grey market into Hong Kong, reloaded with an English/Chinese version of the OS, which among other things meant that the markings on the keyboard (for $%& etc) no longer matched what appeared on screen.
I ended up doing multiple reboots, even some clean reinstalls of the Updater program. After about 5 times of it hanging at the “starting application …” screen, the 6th time it just simply worked. I can’t say why, but it finally did.
And one side effect is that I am back with the European OS. The keyboard mapping is correct now, but I probably can’t view Chinese fonts any more …

I have an unlocked E61 and the software updated claims that their is not a update for it. But it is running 10.0610.04.04. I feel so left out
But I have only had it for a couple of days and I have not noticed any issues yet. It is so much better then my Treo 650.

It looked like I have the same problem. NSU hardly teased my patience. It took minimally 2 minutes to start the NokiaSoftwareUpdater. It seems to me, NSU, during the startup phase, tries to shutdown “PCSuite” type of connection between PC and E61 established before. Possibly, this is the reason of long time starting times. Shutting down all the Nokia PC Suite processes before starting up NSU could help.

I had this exact problem, the trick is to just restart after installing the application for the first time and it works fine. (I discovered this may be an issue because i tried uninstalling after it didn’t work the first time, and it said i needed to restart after uninstalling … so I installed again, restarted and it worked perfectly).
