TomTom available for S60 3rd?

Filed under: Software — stmcgill @ 7:03 pm

TomTom available for S60 3rd? is a good teaser at All About Symbian- “Maybe I dropped off to sleep a few weeks back, but this is news to me: apparently TomTom Navigator 6 is now fully compatible with the Nokia E61/E61 and N80, S60 3rd Edition devices. Further compatibility comments welcomed…”

  2. I got my TomTom Navigator 6 last week. It is great. The compatibility is perfect. So far, it is the best GPS software I experienced on the E61. Highly recommended!!

  3. TomTom 6 runs on the E62 but there is an issue with the backlight that prevents it from staying on. This essentially renders the screen unreadable. While everything else functions properly this is a real bummer.

  4. I am using TOMTOM 6 now for a couple of weeks on my E61. It works perfectly fine, even with my MacBook i do not have any issues with the TOMTOM home Software.

One big issue: If you are planning to use the PLUS services (traffic info) you do not have a chance, to get the traffic info to work. You need to register out of the TOMTOM software on your phone, stating your email address. Unfortunately this is not possible, as one can noy type the @ in this part of the software.

According to TOMTOM Support, this is a known issue, and they are working with NOKIA in finding a solution.

  5. o keep the backlight on (awkward but it works):
    - Start TomTom
    - Goto Backlight preferences.
    - Set it to “when not charging” and done. Unplug charger (if it is plugged in).
    - Now wait for the blacklight to shutoff and for the screen saver to activate (date & time screen).
    - move the joystick, TomTom will come back with the backlight on.
    - go back and set Backlight preferences (to your preferences)
    - you will need to do this every time you start TomTom.

  8. E62 with TomTom6 - backlight dim can be corrected by:
    - hold the lower left button, then press OWN button.
    - repeat again.

Have to do it everytime, good luck.
    ^.^

However, when receive incoming call….it will dim again.
Does anyone have an answer to it?

  11. To waseem: just press lower left + own again — the app selection screen will disappear and you will get back into Tomtom, only now the backlight is on.

On a separate note, I wish I could assign functions to keys on the large E62 keyboard — use keyboard shortcuts instead of navigating through the menu all the time, for example to browse map…

  12. Little off topic, but still…
My PDA has the same problem with the backlight
    when starting TomTom Navigator 6.

Please file your complaint at TomTom!
Let’s hope they have a fix soon. :-)
