I have some annoyances that are starting to bug me about the E61. The good bits are ultra reliability, great battery life, superb email and web browsing and the genral build quality. Does any of the following happen to you?
1/ Seems close to impossible for caller ID to work with 90% of my stored telephone numbers. If a number comes up and I choose to add it to a contact it is already there so I have to add it again. Problem is that the next day it does not display caller ID again? Using FS Caller has not helped.
2/ Why oh why can I not set the alarm funton for a new calendar entry to be defaulted to ‘on’?
3/ Is there a way to turn the screen off without having to wait for the set time out? I am thinking of at night when you still need the E61 on for the morining alarm…
4/ Not technically an E61 problem but has anyone else noticed that you lose your place in a book in Mobipocket if you turn the phone off and back on.
5/ How easy is it to set the default font to be smaller and not destabilise the device?
That’s it for now- if I am wrongon any of the above feel free to put me right using the comments:) Apologies for the lack of entries the past few days- had broadband problems…
I have an N80 but I have heard of the problem in #1 and I have encountered it from time to time. What I heard is if you have TWO or more phone book entries that have the same number, the phone doesn’t know which one to display so it does neither. I have also seen if the number coming in does not have the country code (1 for me) but the stored one does, no match in the phonebook.

Regarding point 3: You don’t need to leave your E61 on during the night for the morning alarm (and I don’t recommend it due to radiation next to your head). Just set your alarm and switch the phone off. It will be switched on and the alarm will sound at the right time. Make sure you use the built in alarm function, not e.g. Handy Clock, as these applications are not able to switch the phone on.

Another Q/Annoyance … when using “contacts” to initiate a telephone call, it takes more than 1 minute for a selected contact to open. Is anyone else exeriencing this? I have > 1500 contacts in the database … perhaps this is more than it likes?

Hey,
Related to contacts the Nokia devices follow the ETSI specs and will only show the caller ID (name) if there is only one phonenumber that matches the incoming call - if you have the number associated to two contacts, it will not show you the caller’s name.
So make sure you have the number only once

about issue nr 2: I noticed that caller ID only works when you store telephone numbers without dashes “-” and/or brackets “()”. So, I got every number stored with an area code between brackets and the caller ID recognition doesn’t work. Very annoying. Getting rid of the brackets (making the number less readable) solves the issue.
I have another very annoying issue. My subscription allows me to receive a second call, so while calling other calls come in and the phone gives you the option to swith between the 2 conversations. Now, the E61 gives you no audible notification that a second call is coming is, and there is no setting to adjust volume nor the ringtone. I emailed Nokia for this issue, they confirm there is no setting, they do say that there is a “small” beep. Guess there is something, but I don’t hear it. So, I end up seeing missed calls when I hang up the first conversation.

Point number 2 is something that frstrates me too…I really never put something in my calendar if i odnt want a reminder…and its a pain to remember to click the alarm on every time.

issue 1: it happened even to me until I discovered I already had that name (only surname). When it found a caller number that match 2 names it show no name.

Ad 4. Try to fully close MobiPocket Reader before you restart your phone. Actual position in book is stored in memory, but with fully closing it saves the position.

Point 1) I use my e61 as a morning alarm as well. I just turn the phone upside-down after I wake up (until the screen times out).
My peeve is it doesn’t have an in built spell checker! I hoping dataviz release docs to go for the e61 soon…

Hi guys..
one question..
did anyone notice that the display makes some noise when it’s on?
I am not sure if this is since the beginning or if something is wrong with my display

Thanks you for all of your comments- the caller ID was is excellent and I am slowly deleting duplicate contacts. COMPLETELY silly that the E61 cannot cope with that though…

I haven’t had any problems with my caller id. I’m synching the E61 with my MacBook and it’s working pretty well.
My peeves have to do with Internet access via WiFi and rebooting. I am having severe problems with my 3 week old E61. The phone is constantly rebooting itself. It cannot properly connect to WiFi Access Points. Email settings are constantly “changing” or getting lost. The ability to retrieve email or connect with a browser is intermittent at best. I wish I could return this phone or at least Nokia in the US would support the E61.

Regarding issue (1), so let’s say I have a list of phone numbers for my co-workers, which of course, will have identical office phone numbers (sans extensions). This would effectively make the E61 unable to show my office phone number.
Great. No wonder I can’t see certain callers IDs.
Thanks for sharing though. I guess now we can at least attempt a workaround - e.g. storing the duplicate phone numbers as a separate contact.

If you have contacts in GoodLink the caller ID does not pick up. It sucks.

we have airtel blackberry connection on my e61. we are unable to open email attachments of big size. on contacting airtel (service provider in mumbai , india) we were informed that this is only possible on a blackberry handset and on nokia there is a size limitation on the size of the email attachments which can be opened. Please advise .

Hi, Is there a way to search by telephone numbers in contacts? For example, instead of searching for John I look up for 1-111-111-1111 to find out where it is stored? Regards, Ganesh
Comment by Ganesh — June 11, 2008 @ 11:43 am
Ganesh Just download and install the Search function, this allows you to search Contacts, phone nos, email documents axatly like on a PC. Works great though a little slow if you seach all your emails

You can store duplicate contacts along with extension nos. The extension no. can be prefixed with a p for pause works well if you have an IVRS direct dial facility on your epabx.
