Map24

Filed under: Software — stmcgill @ 7:29 pm

Charles mentioned Map24 in one of the comments posted for the article below- “It’s not GPS enabled (well I don’t think) but is free and pretty neat, works great on my E61.”

Download your personal version of Map24 Mobile and have access to Map24 wherever you go.

Map24 Mobile runs on Pocket PCs and many multimedia Smartphones. The only requirement for access to the latest Map24 data is a mobile internet connection.

  1. Definitely doesn’t support Bluetooth GPS. Runs gobsmackingly fast in the 3D view on an N93, but doesn’t cope with flipping from portrait to landscape mode too well (but that’s not really a problem on an E61).

  2. It’s useful for people like me because it fills a gap in the market place. I don’t have a car (mainly work from home - waste of money for me) so I have no use at all for GPS. However I might be in a strange city and need to know how to get from street a to street b - this will provide a route or I might actually be in the car with someone and we get a bit lost etc etc.

I’ve played with it in the last hour - for a beta it’s pretty stable but at the moment there are a couple of things:

    1) if you want to download your bookmarks from the site you need to register your device - however that seems to crash the app (the process of trying to download the bookmarks).

    2) Adding bookmarks on the device is fine but it would be better if you can rename them once you have created them.

Having said that - very very fast and at that price (ZERO!) will suit my usage (very rarely) well.

  4. The software may be free for download, but it costs to access the internet on the phone , does it not ?? ( Like I am with 3 right now, ,they would charge me for using the internet on the phone. ) Isnt it better with the GPS like tomtom?

  5. Anyone have a direct link to the mobile map24 software? I have registered on the Map24 site but cannot for the life of me see a direct download link for the mobile software?
I see Map24 Mobile Link but from there, beyond some java popup screen shots I cannot see a download link?

  7. Has anyone gotten Map24 Mobile to work with North American maps?

I’ve imported my address book from the Map24 portal, but when I click a particular address in San Francisco the mobile app seems to zoom into the ocean …
