After 2 weeks I can safely say that the Nokia E61 is doing everything my old Treo 650 did and in a lot of cases (such as email and web browsing) it is doing it much better and much more reliably. From GPS to contact management everything is in place, well almost…
The two activities I still need to manage properly are personal finance and a daily journal. It’s strange but on the Symbian platform personal finance applications are quite weak and for the 3rd edition only 2 or 3 exist and they are not exactly easy to use. I want the ability to add a transaction very quickly and ideally QIF import plus some reporting.
I would have thought that a daily journalling application would be even easier to build and maybe I am being impatient but if you know of any applications that can manage the above tasks well use the commnts link. Also, if there is something you want to do on your E61 and can’t drop a comment in and we will see what we can find:)
With respect to your journal enquiry, Calendar can already do what you want. See http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/support/item/Calendar__journal_entries.php

The ‘real’ PIM applications is far more better in PalmOS.
3 weeks age I changed from an Xplore m68 to E70. Nokia is excellent in communication, web, but very poor in calender, todo list, memos and address book. Category support is the mainest that missing for me.
Palm developed a very productive interface, less keypress / tap than other systems, eliminating all necessary cruising in menus/screens.
Nokia should learn simplicity from Palm about UI.

I have read the article but can’t wuite work it out (I’m not very technical:))
I want the ability to write a standard daily entry and have it shown in a list or the journalling section of Outlook but to have these entries on the E61 as well. No alarms and a similar format each time.

Hi’, great blog !
What I miss most is a database app, like MobileDB for Palm.
And the best PIM app, the standard PIM-selection from my Palm TX. But I know that sbsh.net will soon release Papyrus for S60 V3. A very good calender replacement, that I used on my SPV C500.

Ah, I thought you simply wanted to have an opportunity to write in diary text (“Went to town, cleaned teeth” that sort of thing) for each day. No need for alarms or anything, they’re off by default anyway. Just create a new entry for any day you want to write about. The ‘time’ of the entry isn’t important…
Not perhaps as good as dedicated Palm OS journal app, but it’s quick, it’s free, it’s built-in and it syncs perfectly to Outlook!

Thanks Steve- that may be the way to go. I will try it with daily memos (not sure they sync to Outlook but will see)

I like my e61 but the PIM is woeful (ex-treo 650 user with agendus pro).

No, ‘Memos’ don’t seem to have description fields that you can type paras in – stick to ‘Meeting’ type entries. If you’re fussy about time, stick them in at 8am etc.

PS. Can we have a ‘notifications by email’ function on this blog, please?
