Smart Backup (1 Monat) is showing as working with the E61 but it only backs up contacts and to a server (not likely!)- “What if your phone gets damaged, stolen, you accidentally delete your phonebook contact data or you change your phone. Your contact directory is valuable, how can you recover your contact data? Smart Backup is the most effective application for routinely backing up your contact directory on secure, state-of-the-art backup servers. You can perform unlimited backups and restores.”

Naval Challenge
Naval Challenge has potential for £3.15 and works fine on the E61- “Set in WWII era, Navy Challenge is inspired by the classic gameplay of Battleship. The player can choose to fight as a U.S., U.K., Japanese or Chinese admiral.”
How to Change the Calendar Alarm on the Nokia E61
How to Change the Calendar Alarm on the Nokia E61 is a useful tip at E-Series. I still want to know if it’s possible to set alarms for new entries to automatically be ‘on’? Must make a comment about the E-Series blog- probably the best one out there at the moment and very well written.
Resco Viewer for E61 soon
e61life (a brand new blog) is reporting on the beta of Resco Viewer and have also included some screenshots- looks good to me.
“I got my hands on a beta-version of coming Resco Viewer and will start this new blog with some screenshots. Unfortunately, this beta was released without permission by a beta-tester and I will not link the sis-file. When the final release hits the market I will buy it like everyone else who wants it…”
My memory is coming back to me
I take my 6 year old son to Karate on Saturday mornings and always have a note in my calendar to remember his karate suit and a bottle of water. It’s a bit anal to go to this level of detail when inputting calendar entries but that is one of the effects a really good mobile calendar can have on a user.
There has been much discussion in the past about the effects PDAs have on people’s memory and I’m convinced that it can cause the user to get lazy and to start to forget to remember (if that makes sense?)
The Palm and Psion calendars are two of the best I have used and both allow for super quick entry of things to remember. The Windows Mobile one is not far behind. The standard Nokia E61 calendar is rubbish and it can be a real pain even bothering to enter new appointments.
At first this annoyed me a lot and it was the one big disappointment I had with the phone but after a couple of weeks use I’m starting to enjoy the fact that it is a pain to use because I only input important reminders now such as bills to pay, conference calls and meetings.
I have used PDAs for over 10 years and in that time the calendar application has been used day in day out for a variety of reminders and after a decade I’m sure it was having an effect. The thrill of remembering to take his bottle of water last Saturday without an electronic reminder was admittedly small and it’s very sad that I was proud of myself for remembering something like that.
As the days have passed I am now remembering things without any help and it’s a nice feeling. It also causes my mind to be more occupied with day to day life and to not think about things too much- I am an eternal pessimist and most free time is spent worryingJ
It’s very sad that a highly intelligent (yeah right) 36 year old man got to the stage where he forgot to remember. Thank you Nokia for making an awful calendar and showing me the way forward…
